About

Hello and welcome to techandthings! My name is Catherine and I created this site as an open invitation to join me in my journey to learn Information Technology.

I have currently enrolled in a information technology program to learn new skills and hopefully pivot to a new career in tech. Currently I manage a biobank in a hospital and have to say it honestly is one of the most exciting jobs I have ever had. Each day brings new challenges but also an immense feeling of fulfillment for being an integral part of the medical research field.

Medical research is a rapidly growing field that uses technology in every way. One of the fields that is really exploding right now is genomics, which is the study of genetics and what role they play in our ability to avoid, get and fight off diseases. Can you see why I find this field so exciting?

When I started this job, I did not have any formal training in IT but found out that I not only had to navigate a brand new inventory management system, but also learn to manage it and train others to use it. Tough as it was, I embraced the challenge and have come to realize that I truly enjoy learning technology.

So, of course, I spoke with the IT department about my interest and they suggested getting a degree. They said this would allow me to pivot to full-time database architecture and administration at the completion of study. And here we are!

So thank you for being here. I want to hear about you as well, so please feel free to comment on my posts!
